We began in the field of real estate, where our property agency Luvcorfu specialises in the sale of Corfu's old village houses which are gradually being abandoned and falling into ruin.
But we found that many of our property buyers were disappointed when the chosen restoration team failed to achieve an authentic look, or - worse - when the character of the lovely old house they had purchased was wiped out by insensitive renovation work.
We established Petra Traditional Constructions to provide a building team that can confidently deliver restorations which are faithful to the original.
PETRA TRADITIONAL CONSTRUCTIONS - ALL OVER CORFU
Petra Traditional Constructions has established offices all over Corfu where you, the buyer, can meet members of our dedicated team to discuss your Petra home and view examples of our work, both in the field of new-build and renovation.
Sharing with our associated property agent Luvcorfu, we have offices at Tzavros, near Gouvia on the main Paleokastritsa Highway (covering all Corfu), at Perithia near Acharavi (covering North and North East Corfu), at Barbati (covering North East and North Central Corfu), near Arillas (covering North West Corfu) and at Gastouri (covering Central and South Corfu), making us the most widespread construction company on the island.
At the Perithia agency, examples of Petra's work are incorporated into the interior installations of the building, so that you can see for yourself the choice and quality of structural details and finishings for your new-build home. A show house can also be viewed by appointment.
HELPING CORFU'S ENVIRONMENT
At Petra Traditional Constructions, expressing our concerns for the environment does not constitute an empty marketing tool. We were at the forefront of the fight to stop chemical spraying of the olive trees, and we initiated action to prevent olive trees being cut down to supply pizza ovens in Italy. Though these battles came at a cost, both efforts were vindicated when the authorities changed the law to halt the environmental damage.
We founded the Corfu Heritage Preservation Association, and continue to be active members of other organizations concerned with culture and the environment. The traditional materials that are incorporated into the house design, whether new-build properties or restoration ones, include many salvaged materials which would otherwise end up in Corfu's pressured landfill sites, like Byzantine rooftiles, timber beams and old bricks.
For finishing both new-build and renovation houses, we use chemical-free limewash paints, which are manufactured without polluting Corfu's ground. In this way, buyers help protect Corfu's environment as well as its heritage, and contribute to saving local resources. And a final advantage is that caring for the environment helps to keep the price down!
